(01) The house

Built as a trapper’s lodge in 1931 and rebuilt timber by timber, Aldermoor keeps eleven rooms, one long table and a boathouse. We cook what the valley gives, light the sauna at dusk, and leave the rest to the mountains.

(04) Four seasons

Deep snow

The ice lets go of the lake in a single night. Meltwater, first canoes and wild garlic on the table.

Swims before breakfast, suppers on the dock, and sunsets that last until ten.

For three weeks the larches turn gold. We walk the high passes and bring the fires back in.

Snowshoes by the door, the sauna lit at four, and the aurora if you’re patient.
